Perfecting the balance

It’s rich, It’s natural, it’s practical

• It’s natural

Drawn from an underground base of rocks in the Gulfa Natural springs located in Masfout, Ajman, UAE – this natural source of water has flowed for centuries, working overtime to collect essential minerals to bring you naturally enriched water with purity and a great taste.

• It’s rich

Gulfa water enriches you with valuable minerals and trace elements, something that your body is unable to do on its own. Right from the moment it’s been sourced up until it reaches the shelves, it has undergone a rigorous process designed to make the most out of the mineral content available – all for your health benefits.

• It’s practical

A fast paced and active life requires the right amount of energy and vitality. We all know a healthy balance of work, rest, and play is essential to any healthy lifestyle; but what we might not know is the fact that the right balance of mineral content also plays a huge role. The balance of natural minerals in Gulfa water is the perfect supplement to ensure you get through your day, the right way.

What’s the buzz around calcium?

All minerals are essential to a healthy life and body; but very few play a role as important as calcium. From well-known benefits such as bone health to lesser-known benefits such as reduction in blood clots, better digestion and increases in nerve and energy metabolism; calcium has you covered on all fronts.

• Recommended daily requirement

As you know, the body is capable of many miracles; sadly natural production of calcium is not one of these. That’s why daily consumption of the right food and beverages is essential to meet the daily-recommended levels. For a healthy adult this is around 800mg a day. Other groups such as growing children and adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and the elderly need up to 1200 mg. There is such a thing as overkill and it’s recommended that you should not exceed 1,500 mg of calcium per day.

• Sources of calcium

Since your body absorbs more calcium when it’s consumed in small amounts over time, it’s easy to keep consumption levels adequate by consistently staying hydrated throughout the day. When combined with other calcium sources such as dairy products, and vegetables like kale and broccoli, mineral water is a great calorie free way for everyone to meet their daily calcium intake.

Did you know that on average, 1kg of calcium is stored in your body? Most of it in your bones and teeth. Ever wondered why your teeth don’t crack when you chew, or your bones don’t crumble when you walk? Yes, that’s calcium, and that’s also why you need to meet your daily requirement of this important mineral.

Why Calcium?

Without calcium, the body can’t function. In addition to keeping your bones and body structure strong – calcium also plays a strong supporting role in blood circulation, digestion, nerve impulses and energy metabolism.

How much do I need?

A healthy adult should get around 800mg of calcium per day to keep everything in good order. If you’re over 50, a growing child, an adolescent, or a breastfeeding mother; you probably need a little more than that. Generally the recommended daily intake for this group is around 1,200mg.

 Where do I get it?

In addition to most mineral waters, good sources of calcium can be found in dairy products, some vegetables, and selected canned fish. But you can’t beat the pre-dissolved calcium you find in mineral water as this is easily absorbed by the body.

The low down on magnesium

A daily dose of magnesium is essential to a healthy mind and body, bit since the body can’t produce it on its own – we face a daily challenge to meet our magnesium requirements through hydration and a healthy diet. Magnesium is calcium’s best friend as it works in parallel with this mineral to build strong bones and most importantly it supports muscle, energy metabolism and nervous system function. It can also help reduce fatigue and tiredness so it’s essential to wake up to the benefits that come with this mineral.

Can Gulfa help?

• How much is enough?

Your recommended intake of magnesium varies depending on your age, gender, and lifestyle. Adults should aim for 375mg per day and men should generally take a little more than women given their higher muscle and bone mass. Requirements also vary for physically active people, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers who will require a little more than most. It’s also important to listen to your body, if you feel tired or stressed, it might be a good idea to increase magnesium intake – but always consult your doctor first.

• Sources of magnesium

The sources of magnesium are many and varied, however all are not created equal. Foods rich in magnesium include vegetables, milk, poultry, nuts, and fish; but be careful as some methods of cooking and processing can cause foods to lose some of their mineral content. But that’s not the case with Gulfa water as dissolved mineral water increases its bioavailability.

At any given time there is about 25gm of magnesium in the human body. It’s a mineral required for numerous important body functions, which makes the mineral essential to meet daily requirements.

What does it do?

Magnesium activates over 300 enzymes, this allows you to metabolize energy and creates a normal synthesis of protein. Other benefits include healthy muscles and bones, plus a properly function nervous system which is extremely important to those living an active lifestyle.

How much do I need?

This all depends on who you are what you do. Men need more than women, active individuals need more than sedentary people, and pregnant or breastfeeding women need more than the general population. But as a guideline, aim for around 350 mg per day.

Why Gulfa?

Gulfa is rich in magnesium with a regular intake helping you meet your daily requirements so you can stay healthy and active. And when you drink with your meal, the magnesium will be absorbed even more efficiently.

What can Bicarbonate do for you?

Bicarbonate helps maintain the balance of acids in your body. This is known as the pH value, which works as an acid buffer.  This happens through an alkaline base, the enemy of acid, and when found in mineral water, gives you a clean, refreshing drinking experience.

• Bicarbonate intake

One of the best ways to consume bicarbonate is through mineral water; any mineral water with a bicarbonate content of 600 mg can be classified as containing bicarbonate. This includes Gulfa.

What about it?

If you have a physically demanding job, eating disorders, digestion issues, use certain medications, or if you’re an athlete, or a smoker, you may be potassium deficient. This is a problem because being low in potassium is associated with a higher risk of many nasty health problems you want to avoid; these include heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, arthritis, and cancer. Ok you’re convinced.

How do I get it?

Good sources of Potassium include bananas, avocados, almonds, citrus fruits, vegetables, milk and potatoes – however it’s important to realize that sometimes the minerals won’t be as effective if cooked in certain ways. Of course this isn’t the case with mineral waters as the minerals are already dissolved.

How much do I need?

The amount of Potassium you require depends on your age, generally the older you are, the more you need. If your pregnant or breastfeeding you should take a little more than usual. Around 4700 gm a day is the requirement of a healthy adult.
